Life's pleasures are best shared with someone you love. But what to do when there is nobody with whom to share?! If you are wondering why Mr Perfect hasn't strolled up and swept you off your feet yet, you may need to reassess how proactive you are in the search to find love.

Destiny is one thing, but it is important to understand the need to begin an independent search. You won't meet anyone spending an evening at home in front of the TV. Getting out there is the only way to meet more people and expand your circles and hopefully meet someone special. But where it is possible to get acquainted with the worthy man for serious and long-term relations?

One of the most popular, safe and easy ways is online dating.

Registration is free on many sites and there are many profiles to choose from. Everybody is using the site with a similar purpose in mind. It can be time consuming to sift through the many profiles, and sometimes not all users are 100% genuine. Online dating sites trust their members use the site in good faith, but it may turn out for example that a user is already married, or is using images which are not accurate. So, prepare for very careful search and never give out personal info such as bank details. If you meet someone from online, always meet in a public place. It is also a good idea to have a phone conversation first after email correspondence.

Singles Events are also a great way to meet a potential date.

At a singles event, you already know everyone in the bar is single. It takes the guess work out of regular bars and clubs. By meeting someone face to face, you can work out instantly if there is attraction and chemistry, which can sometimes be quite difficult with online dating. Many people go to these events alone, but it is also an good excuse to grab some friends and make a night out of it. If you don't take it too seriously you will meet lots of new people and above all have a fun night. Who know, you might even meet someone special. Companies such a SpeedDater offer a wide range of dating events such of speed dating (up to 50 people), parties (up to 400 people) and more exclusive special events such as wine tasting, quiz nights and bowling. Categories are often split by age range to help with the matching process, and there are niche markets such as Christian Events, Older Women Younger Men and International Professionals. There really is something for everyone.

Don't be afraid to meet people out and about.

Depending on what sort of work you do, your job may provide you with the opportunity to meet more men. Keeping a relationship secret in the office can be difficult, and outing it could cause rumour and gossip to spread. Always keep in mind that if you see a prospective interest everyday, things have the potential to turn sour if it doesn't work out.

Vacations are a great times to meet new people and as we are generally in high spirits and up for trying new things. We tend to look better on holiday, we have less problems and more relaxed and open to new ideas. A summer romance can do wonders for the self esteem, but remember sometimes the romance ends when the holiday ends, so it's not usually the best time to find something serious.

Bars, clubs, the gym, supermarket - you can meet potential prospects anywhere, but if you're not the kind of girl who would walk right up to a give and say hi, you might need an 'excuse' to get the conversation rolling. It's always good to meet people through people, so don't be afraid to ask your friends to invite you places they know will have other singles from different circles. Your friend will probably know you and your tastes well, so have a little faith and get out there!

Like the other areas of your life which you plan, it's important to have be proactive about your love life, and don't leave it all to chance. Destiny is very unpredictable lady, and love can find you in strange ways and unexpected times. The main thing is to trust in yourself and be confident. And remember; smile, smile, smile. It's the best pick up line around.
