Our house is our inner world

The house is the most « habitable place». This is a place where the person is in harmony with him or at least comes nearer to this state of bliss. Nobody will doubt that the house has for the person a symbolical value strongly connected with household prejudices and philosophical ideas. Speaking about a city, about the country, as a whole world, we name it our house. An outlook of the person is in many respects defined by how it equips the dwelling. The house is a place, which we leave and where come back. Each of stages of a human life can be considered through its relation to the house. The life begins with development of the parental house, proceeds in a separation from a patrimonial nest and building of the own. When the house is not present, the person in every way aspires to find it. When the house appears, he understands that apartment, a cottage, a private residence - yet «the present house». So, the house is the world in a miniature, a symbol whole. In building of the house the person finds out itself as a being searching for harmonies, that is - the world. The main requirement which the person showed to the house in the past and which it shows to it in the present, it is possible to try to formulate as follows: nothing unsuitable should be in the house, the house space is a space where the person feels easy. Today the house for the people working not at home is a contrast to "work" where the person belongs not to himself.

If to try to express the general aesthetic impression of the house which we have just visited most likely we use concept coziness/discomfort. The big space not occupied by things does not favor feeling of coziness. In the big and thin room the person feels lost. Even familiar for a long time, convenient things seem "far" if too big distance lies between them and their owner.

The size of a living room should not be either big or too small: if the room is too big, and there are very few things in it, you feel lost and in opposite, a heap of subjects, pressed by spaces furniture at all doesn't not create a cozy atmosphere. Too close space "presses", and the person feels discomfort of that its movements are constrained. The space in this case as though tends to "compression", threatening to "crush" the owner of a room. Too small space (as well as too big) is difficult for rendering habitable, introducing in it an order to make it physically and sincerely proportional to the person.

When you furnish you house, you should also think attentively about the things which you will see every day. Well familiar, old things are the things which could look like humanized. Old things which the person lives with side by side many years, is as the company of old friends, in whose society you feel confidently and easy. If the cozy is connected first of all with a private life household things can be compared to native people: with the wife and children, with parents, with circle of close friends. But as people do not become friends in one day, and household things enter into the vital world of the person gradually. For creation of atmosphere of coziness the measure of occurrence of household things in a life of the concrete person is important. The longer the thing is side by side with you, the more it is humanized, "animated".

One of the important and necessary conditions of occurrence of feeling of coziness is warmth. In the cold house coziness does not happen. Warm is such temperature which any more is not felt as the person as "cold", but it is not perceived yet by it as "heat". Heat weakens, removes stress (both physical, and psychological), but does not lead to a breakdown and sensations of discomfort, apathy, slackness - characteristic signs of a heat and closeness accompanying it.

For the creation of atmosphere of coziness, fire and light have smaller value also. The furnace and-or a fireplace were the internal centre of the house and were the only heat and light source even in ancient times. The fireplace was its physical, psychological and symbolical centre. And even today everyone will agree that an open flame in the house - whether it is fire of a fireplace or a flickering flame of a candle (icon lamp) - creates the special, chamber and intimate atmosphere having to slow friendly dialogue, to relaxing, to deepening in memoirs etc. This atmosphere you will not name differently as cozy.

So home means different for everyone, but the feeling of coziness is really one of the common things which make people gather together at home, as coziness is the reflexion of the human inner world, and if we like the person, so we will definitely love the house he lives in!
